RIC 5500 Vibracore

The RIC 5500 is a robust electric vibracoring system engineered for demanding environments, capable of operating at depths reaching 500 meters and extracting sediment cores up to 10 meters long. Its electric motor delivers between 3,500 and 5,500 ft/lbs of impact force at a rate of 1500 vibrations per minute (VPM). Thanks to its lower vibration frequency compared to many conventional vibracore units, the RIC 5500 is frequently approved for geotechnical applications. The reduced VPM also enables the use of heavier weight sets, increasing system amplitude and providing significantly greater penetration power in compacted or consolidated materials.

Typically, the system is mounted within a seafloor frame equipped with legs, though it can also be deployed with external floats when a frame is not required. It supports core tubes up to 10 meters in length and features a pivoting check‑valve adapter attached to the vibratory head, allowing quick and efficient changeovers on deck. Deployment is handled via a power umbilical that supplies surface power along with data and control signals. With more than 40 units in operation worldwide, the RIC series has established a strong track record, performing reliably in environments ranging from deep‑sea settings to shallow, fast‑flowing rivers.
